Gilding tower cocks

Gilding gives an object, such as a tower cock or wind vane, a beautiful appearance. From far away a gilded tower cock catches your eye. Schitterend is skilled in the art of gilding tower cocks and wind vanes.

The tower cock or wind vane on a church tower needs to be re-gilded with gold leaf about every 50 year. When the cock or wind vane is removed from its spire to be gilded again, the opportunity must be seized to immediately inspect whether restoration and conservation is needed. After 50 years of all kinds of weather influences the tower cock is severely weather-beaten and shows signs of corrosion. During restoration work, holes and cracks are filled so moisture (to prevent corrosion) cannot enter. After this the surface will be sanded and provided with several layers of protective coating. Schitterend will then paint the cock with several layers and will finally provide it with richly gilded decorations.
